Senator Graham had just returned from a trip overs Senator Graham had just returned from a trip overseas. By all accounts he seemed fine. Hours later he was gone.

That is what makes an aortic dissection so hard to catch. It does not always give a warning. When it does, the warning is sudden, severe chest or back pain that feels like tearing. That kind of pain is never something to wait out.

Your blood pressure is one of the few numbers in this story you actually get to control.
Know it.
Track it.
Treat it if it is high.

Make it a normal part of every checkup, not something you only think about after a scare.
Most people are told their cholesterol is “fine.” Most people are told their cholesterol is “fine.” But that doesn’t always mean low risk.

In practice, we’re looking deeper.

ApoB helps us understand how many particles are actually driving plaque buildup.
Lp(a) tells us about genetic risk that won’t show up on a standard panel.

These are simple blood tests. But they can completely change how we approach prevention.

If you’ve never had advanced cholesterol testing, this is worth asking about.

If you’re in the Frisco, McKinney, or Plano area, we do this every day in our prevention clinic.

We establish your baseline, walk you through your numbers, and build a plan to stay ahead of problems. If you've never been to a Cardiologist before, this is where you start. Visit www.theheartsmartgroup.com.
Most of the time, fainting is nothing. But sometim Most of the time, fainting is nothing.
But sometimes it's your heart trying to tell you something,

and these are the 5 situations that make me stop and dig deeper:

1️⃣ You pass out and your heart was racing beforehand, could be an arrhythmia that got so fast your heart couldn't keep up.
2️⃣ It happens during exercise, every time, like clockwork.
3️⃣ No warning at all ,you're just standing there and suddenly you're on the floor.
4️⃣ Someone in your family fainted young (under 50), that runs in families more than people realize
5️⃣ It's happened more than once, even if you brushed off the first time as "probably nothing".

None of these mean panic. But they do mean: don't just shake it off.

Go to my YouTube to see the full explanation of why these warning signs are so important.

For years, we focused on basic cholesterol numbers For years, we focused on basic cholesterol numbers. LDL, HDL, triglycerides.

That’s a start. It’s not the full picture.

Now we’re looking deeper at ApoB, which helps us understand how likely those particles are to actually cause plaque and blockage.

Here’s why that matters:
📌 You can have low LDL and still be at risk
📌 If ApoB is high, your risk is still there
📌 It’s a more accurate way to measure what’s happening

The good news is nothing changes for you. It’s still a simple blood test.

We just add a few key markers:
ApoB
Lp(a)
hs-CRP

That gives a much clearer picture of your risk and how to prevent heart attack and stroke.

If you’ve been told your cholesterol is “fine” but want a deeper look, this is where to start. We'll measure this when you come into our Prevention Clinic at The Heart Smart Group in Frisco and McKinney, TX.
Your heart works harder in the heat. To cool you d Your heart works harder in the heat. To cool you down it pumps more and faster, and you lose fluid as you sweat. For most people that is fine. For some, it is a real strain.
If you have a heart condition, take high heat seriously. Hydrate before you are thirsty. Move your hardest activity to the cooler hours. Pay attention to dizziness, a racing heart, or unusual shortness of breath.
None of this means hide indoors all summer. Stay active. Just be smart about when and how, especially through a North Texas July.
The goal is to enjoy the season without surprising your heart.
