The common concern that I get asked in the office almost on a daily basis is what is the risk of myocarditis or inflammation of the heart with relation to the vaccine versus the risk of myocarditis with Covid 19 actual infection itself in an unvaccinated patient. A New England Journal of Medicine article in December of 2021 identified about 2.1 cases per 100000 people who receive the vaccine. This is obviously much lower than the risk of myocarditis or inflammation of the heart compared to being unvaccinated and getting Covid 19. If you are not vaccinated and get covid 19 the risk of myocarditis is at least around 40 cases per a 100000 cases so a significantly higher risk of myocarditis if not getting the vaccine.
