Medtronic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) For Tachycardia

ICDs or implantable cardiac defibrillators are very similar in appearance to pacemakers and are surgically implanted with wires inserted permanently into the heart.  They provide emergency internal defibrillation or shocking of the heart to restart the heart in treatment of dangerous arrythmias.  They are indicated most often in patients with heart failure to prevent cardiac arrest.   The most common companies for ICDs are Boston Scientific, Medtronic and Abbot.
