There has been an ongoing confusion about how coffee intake affects the heart. A recent study in the UK has brought some clarity and good news to coffee drinkers regarding this issue.  468,629 participated in this study and 22.1% did not drink coffee whereas 58.5% consumed light to moderate amounts on a daily basis as defined as 0.5 to 3 cups per day.  19.5% consumed more than 3 cups per day.. After median follow up of 11 years, the light to moderate coffee drinkers had a lower risk of all cause mortality and lower risk of cardiovascular mortality and a lower risk of incident of stroke compared to the non consumer coffee drinking group…this was even further evaluated with cardiac MRI which showed a dose dependent increase in left and right ventricular stroke volume and right ventricular stroke volume. What that means is basically the heart was squeezing out more blood in light to moderate coffee drinking group compared to the non coffee drinking group.
